About the role

We’re looking for a Unit Manager, Specialty Lines & Surety Claims Development Program to join our growing team!

This position is responsible for:
 

(1) Coordinating and overseeing the Specialty and Surety Claims Development Program; and
 

(2) Designing claims-specific training materials for all Learning & Development (L&D) initiatives.

The Development Program is a 12-month comprehensive curriculum aimed at recent graduates with little or no experience in claims. The program equips them with the essential skills for claims handling. This position will have a North American Specialty focus.  

What you’ll do here:

  • Supervision:

    • Supervise and lead Claims Trainees by assigning tasks, providing training and guidance in collaboration with their line of business leading experts.

    • Oversee daily operations, including workload distribution, task prioritization, reporting, and performance monitoring (e.g. establishing and monitoring Key Performance Indicators).

    • Conduct performance evaluations, offer feedback and address development needs.

    • Participate in Trainee recruiting events with other managers.

    • Conduct reviews of Trainee’s claims files to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
       

  • Training & Development:

    • Improve the Development Program by applying adult learning and instructional design principles and strategies (e.g. hands-on exercises, simulations, and case studies).

    • Lead the planning, design, development, delivery, and evaluation of learning materials for the trainee program and other L&D initiatives.

    • Coordinate speakers and conduct training sessions, workshops, and seminars.

    • Develop and monitor metrics to evaluate training effectiveness, gathering feedback to improve content.

    • Maintain and update training materials on learning systems.
       

  • Collaboration:

    • Collaborate with the US Training Program Supervisor/team, internal L&D resources, line of business leaders and HR in Canada and the US.

    • Collaborate with technical leaders to develop training materials and address any challenges.

    • Act as a resource for skill development and questions.

What you bring to the table:

  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred or any combination of equivalent education and experience.

  • 3-5 years of claims experience, including 1-3 years in a supervisory role.

  • Holds the Authorité des marches financiers (AMF) license and familiar with the process of obtaining it (an asset).

  • Experience with adult learning, instructional design, and project management (an asset).

  • Excellent time management, prioritization, and high accuracy and follow-through on projects.

  • Professional demeanor, able to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Superior communication, organizational, and presentation skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and adaptable to new technology.

  • Strong customer relation skills.

  • Bilingualism in English and French is required. Need to interact on a regular basis with English-speaking clients and colleagues across the country.

  • For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism is required considering the necessity to interact on a regular basis with English-speaking colleagues across the country.

  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
