About the role
We are seeking a Commercial Surety Underwriter to join our Halifax team on a temporary basis.
What you’ll do here:
- Review bond applications, financial statements, legal documents, Acts/Regulations, bond forms, and other related documents
- Perform financial analysis by imputing financial information and reviewing ratios and trends
- Assess risk and appropriately recommend approval of new and renewing commercial surety bonds
- Develop and maintain relationships with insurance brokers to market bonds
- Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and records
- Work closely with a Senior Underwriter on managing the book
What you bring to the table:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or finance or relative business experience, and/or experience in a commercial insurance underwriting or brokerage capacity
- Solid understanding of financial statements
- Strong analytical and research skills
- A history of providing excellent customer service and sound judgment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with co-workers in a team setting
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite of products
