About the role
We’re looking for an Underwriter, Commercial Lines, to join our team! This role is a full-time hybrid position that requires a minimum of two (2) days per week working in our Mississauga or London, ON office.
This role is open to both Level I and Level II underwriters, with the level being determined based on the experience of the successful applicant.
What you'll do here:
Participate In broker visits, Insurance Industry functions and marketing events in support of broker relationship development.
Use negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company.
Make recommendations to improve the department processes and increase efficiency.
Analyze requests for quotes and recommend innovative solutions
Focus on building relationships while underwriting and rating policies
Provides technical advice, recommendations, and mentoring to team members
Assess, evaluate and negotiate on moderate to complex risks.
What you bring to the table:
Minimum 1 year of experience in an underwriter or underwriter assistant capacity
Candidates with prior Commercial Lines Auto experience will be prioritized
Very strong sales and customer service skills
Completion of or progress toward a CIP designation is an asset
Maintain an expert and current understanding of all relevant Commercial Underwriting Guides and instructions related thereto
Demonstrate the ability to handle complex risks
Awareness of local community conditions and insurance issues
Strong negotiating skills and business savvy
Initiative and ability to work under pressure
Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and computer tools.
No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
