64,100 - 78,300

Annual bonus target, based on the base salary, with a potential payout of up to double the target (subject to personal and company performance):

Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.

We are a leader in the investment management industry. Our growing team of 71 experts is future oriented.  Intact Investment Management has seven teams: Fixed Income, Equity, Private Investment, Asset Allocation, Compliance and Governance, Trading and Transactional Support/Reporting. 

About the Trading team

Join a dynamic team of three people, working closely with the various portfolio management teams on a daily basis. Our team has recognized expertise in the Canadian, American and European equity markets and executes transactions in support of the various strategies managed at Intact Investment Management.

Job Description

As a Trader, Equities, you will play a key role in optimizing transaction processes to ensure smooth and fast execution, in accordance with best execution principles. You will continuously monitor capital markets to support managers in their investment decisions and accurately execute the resulting transactions. You will work closely with management and operations teams on a variety of initiatives aimed at continuous improvement. Your analyses will help refine equity strategies, optimize access to liquidity and strengthen existing controls.

Responsibilities

  • Optimization of trading processes

    • In collaboration with the team, continuously review and work on trading best practices through the use of transaction monitoring tools;

    • Refine the various reports in place to support decision-making;

    • Adjust debt securities positions and monitor them on a daily basis;

    • Collaborate with operations teams in the settlement of various transactions.

  • Market watch

    • Ensure a constant flow of communication with members of the Trading team to ensure the best possible execution of the investment strategy concerned;

    • Monitor market movements and inform managers of their possible impact;

    • Provide information on the performance of various portfolio positions and contextualize them to support managers in their analyses.

  • Trading

    • In collaboration with the Trading team, be responsible for the trading and execution of equities on the Canadian, American and European markets;

    • Monitor and analyze execution performance metrics (slippage, costs, TCA) and evaluate possible solutions;

    • Contribute to the optimization of trading processes and tools (algorithm settings, broker preference lists, automation).

  • Continuous development

    • Keep abreast of changes in market structure and rules in Canada, the U.S. and Europe, and assess their impact on day-to-day operations;

    • Review industry best practices (principle of best execution) and validate their applicability within the team;

    • Collaborate with stakeholders and propose new methods to improve the trading service offered to managers (processes, tools, automation, reporting).

What you will work with

  • Data and tools: Excel (advanced), market data platforms (e.g., Bloomberg, CRD, Triton), analytics tools.

  • Asset classes: Equities.

What you bring to the table: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field. Master’s degree in Finance, an asset.

  • Have, or wish to obtain, the CFA designation. 

  • Up to three years of investment experience and a strong interest in capital markets and how they work.

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel. Programming skills, an asset. 

  • Ability to navigate and consult programs such as Bloomberg and/or Charles River, an asset. 

  • Integrity, analytical rigour, problem-solving abilities, stress management skills, accountability, ability to prioritize deliverables, desire to collaborate with colleagues and partners. 

  • No Canadian work experience is required; however, you must be eligible to work in Canada. 

  • Bilingualism (English-French). You will interact regularly with colleagues from across the country.
