About the role

We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist II (NLP / LLMs) to join our dynamic team. This role is hybrid, with candidates required to be based in Vancouver. You will collaborate with our advanced data science team to design, build, deploy, and iterate on production NLP solutions powered by Large Language Models (LLMs), GenAI, and agentic AI.

This role combines strong technical execution with a product mindset: understanding customer/stakeholder needs, defining success metrics, making informed trade-offs, and delivering measurable business outcomes. The ideal candidate has deep NLP/LLM experience, thrives in ambiguity, and is comfortable operating in cloud environments (specifically AWS).

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to leverage their expertise in NLP, GenAI, and agentic AI while delivering real product outcomes in a collaborative, production-focused environment. If you’re excited to lead innovative NLP/LLM initiatives on AWS, we’d love to hear from you.

What you'll do here:

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Data/ AI Engineering, to deliver end-to-end NLP/GenAI capabilities from prototype to production.

  • Apply a product mindset to translate ambiguous business problems into clear hypotheses, solution approaches, MVPs, and measurable outcomes (KPIs, offline/online evaluation).

  • Design and develop complex analytical and ML projects, taking ownership from discovery and experimentation through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.

  • Build and optimize NLP/LLM solutions such as classification, extraction, summarization, retrieval, semantic search, and question answering using RAG and modern prompting techniques.

  • Develop and operationalize agentic AI workflows (tool use, function calling, orchestration, guardrails, and evaluation) to automate multi-step business processes safely and reliably.

  • Work with large-scale structured and unstructured datasets: data cleaning, preparation, feature engineering, and dataset governance.

  • Define, implement, and maintain model monitoring: performance drift, data quality checks, bias/fairness considerations, latency/cost monitoring, and business impact tracking.

  • Stay current on advancements in GenAI, LLM tooling, agent frameworks, and evaluation methods, incorporating practical improvements into workflows.

  • Mentor junior data scientists, contribute to best practices, and help raise the bar on experimentation rigor, reproducibility, and production readiness.

What you bring to the table:

  • Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in data science/ML, with strong depth in NLP and machine learning.

  • Extensive experience using Python for data analysis, modeling, and building production-grade ML workflows.

  • Demonstrated experience working in cloud environments, specifically AWS, including services such as SageMaker, and S3.

  • Deep understanding and hands-on experience with NLP techniques and tooling (e.g., transformers, embeddings, sequence models).

  • Experience building with and/or fine-tuning LLMs (e.g., GPT-style models, BERT or similar), including modern approaches such as prompt engineering, RAG, evaluation frameworks, and safety/quality guardrails.

  • Experience with GenAI/agentic AI patterns (e.g., tool/function calling, orchestration, memory/state, human-in-the-loop workflows).

  • Proficiency with SQL and experience with Snowflake.

  • Strong ML fundamentals and applied experience selecting models, validating results, and communicating trade-offs.

  • Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and strong communication, time management, organization, and presentation skills.

  • Preferred (not required): knowledge of the insurance sector.

  • No Canadian work experience required; however, must be eligible to work in Canada.

Il s'agit d'un nouveau rôle au sein de notre équipe en pleine croissance | This role is a new member of our growing team.
