About the role

At Intact, we are dedicated to building innovative, in-house solutions to streamline our operations and enhance our service offerings. We are currently seeking a highly technical skilled and experienced Principal to lead the technical strategy and roadmap, and to advocate our strategy and vision of our Policy Administration System (PAS). 

The Principal will act as a thought leader, mentoring teams, driving best practices, innovation in software development and system integration and collaborating globally: you will be responsible of leading the end-to-end strategy, design, and development of a robust and scalable PAS tailored to our business needs. You will leverage your deep expertise in system architecture, data management, and software engineering to ensure the successful delivery of an enterprise-grade solution.  

The Principal, Policy Administration System (PAS) will report directly to the Vice President, Software Engineering 
 

What you'll do here:  

System Architecture & Development:

  • Own end-to-end PAS design and delivery with a scalable, reliable, high-performance architecture.
  • Integrate PAS with enterprise systems (data, CRM, finance) using modern APIs and microservices.
  • Establish CI/CD, automated testing, and deployment for rapid, high-quality releases.

Data Management & Security :

  • Implement PAS-level data controls
  • Collaborate with security/compliance to enforce policies, mitigate risks, and pass audits.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and secure data handling within PAS.

AI Integration :

  • Embed AI in PAS workflows (underwriting, pricing, recommendations) using approved models.

Global Leadership & Community of Practice:

  • Mentor software developersand lead a PAS Community of Practice for consistency and knowledge sharing.
  • Engage stakeholders to translate business goals into a clear technical roadmap.
  • Advise executives and leaders on data/platform strategy and PAS evolution.

Strategic Influence & Negotiation:

  • Shape PAS direction; negotiate priorities, timelines, and deliverables with business units.
  • Define and track KPIs for performance, reliability, user satisfaction, and efficiency.
  • Influence long-term platform decisions with a focus on resilience and innovation.

Software Engineering Best Practices:

  • Champion observability, scalability, security, and performance across the stack.
  • Implement robust monitoring/logging; perform performance tuning and load testing.
  • Enforce secure coding and regular vulnerability management.

​Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

  • Run POCs, evaluate tools, and integrate relevant emerging technologies.
  • Drive continuous improvement through code reviews, documentation, and agile practices.
  • Maintain a modern API roadmap to enhance interoperability and developer velocity.

What you bring to the table:  

  • Bachelor’s in computer science/software engineering or equivalent experience. 

  • 15+ years in software engineering and enterprise architecture; experience building PAS or similar systems. 

  • Expertise in system design, integration patterns, and data management/governance. 

  • Proficiency in Python/Java (e.g., Spring Boot), RESTful APIs, microservices. 

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and cloud-native architectures. 

  • Demonstrated AI/ML integration in enterprise systems. 

  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management; ability to negotiate and influence. 

  • For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism is required considering the necessity to interact on a regular basis with English-speaking colleagues across the country. 

  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
