About the role

We’re looking for a Payroll Accounting Specialist to become a key member of our growing team! In this role, you'll play a crucial part in overseeing and optimizing all payroll operations, ensuring precise payroll processing and alignment with company timelines and regulations. Your expertise will drive improvements in processes and systems, while you offer insightful recommendations to enhance efficiency and control. Additionally, you'll provide valuable support to the payroll team through coaching and mentorship, while responding to audit inquiries and assisting in budgeting and forecasting of payroll expenses. Your role will be vital in fostering collaboration with other departments and delivering essential reports for HR and Finance.

What you’ll do here:

  • Oversee and execute payroll ledger management and year-end financial processes, while analyzing accounts and generating journal entries.

  • Participate in the financial year-end closing and preparation of T4s and oversee all activities related to payroll (settlement, remittances, bank reconciliation, executive allowance program and any other related tasks).

  • Execute daily payroll and accounting operations for Canadian, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established timelines.

  • Verify and process remittances to government agencies and other entities (income tax, health insurance, WCB/CSST, etc.).

  • Manage the payroll group mailbox, providing timely and accurate responses to inquiries.

  • Analyze, comprehend, collaborate with other centers of expertise, and provide recommendations.

  • Participate in the financial systems and accounting processes improvement initiatives.

  • Take a critical look at the controls in place and the various accounting treatments related to our operations.

  • Make recommendations and suggestions to management based on your expertise.

  • Simplify, standardize, secure, and increase controls of different work files.

  • Lead, participate in and contribute to the implementation of all projects affecting payroll outcome.

  • Play a key role in supporting the payroll team and providing necessary coaching.

  • Prepare and analyze key payroll-related indicators.

  • Respond to internal and external audit requests.

  • Assist in budget preparation and forecasting related to payroll expenses.

  • Support our business units in the management of their operational expenses.

  • Provide specific reports to HR and Finance according to operational needs.

What you bring to the table:

  • For all candidates across Canada: Bilingualism (French / English) is required considering the need to interact on a regular basis with colleagues across the country.

  • Solid technical knowledge of payroll. PCP/PLP certification from the National payroll Institute.

  • Minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience in accounting, IFRS accounting standards and/or finance.

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA or CGA) or any combination of equivalent education and experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of all processes related to year-end closing and tax slip management.

  • Experience in project management. Capability to efficiently oversee and complete projects on schedule. May be required to supervise additional staff on special projects.

  • Demonstrated strong collaboration and partnership abilities, flexibility in work execution.

  • Fast learning, agility, and adaptability to change.

  • Possess a strong ability to make decisions. Autonomy and professionalism.

  • Strong aptitude for coaching and continuous learning.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Can interact with various people at all levels of the organization, including management and some external stakeholders.

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel.

  • Knowledge of the Workday system is an asset.

  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
