About the role

As a Manager of Software Development, you will lead the Shared Services application architecture team responsible for foundational technologies and platforms that are leveraged by Intact’s major systems. Your primary goal is to drive the implementation and evolution of cutting-edge application architecture practices and platform technologies. You will ensure optimal reusability, scalability, compliance, and ecosystem simplification. Additionally, you will work with other departments to build technical roadmaps that align with business needs and evaluate and prioritize incoming requests to ensure alignment with organizational goals. Throughout this process, you'll focus on fostering your team's growth in both technical and personal skills.


What you'll do here:

  • Architectural Leadership:

    • Develop and maintain best practices in application architecture.

    • Ensure architecture scalability, conformity, and ecosystem simplification.

    • Work with other departments to build technical roadmaps that align with business needs.

  • Team Development & Collaboration:

    • Build and nurture productive and engaged teams focused on continuous development and collaboration.

    • Foster an environment of collaboration with enterprise and solution architecture teams to align application decisions with company visions.

  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Ensure adherence to company standards in software engineering, architecture, and quality.

    • Evolve practices, tools, and processes to boost team autonomy and efficiency.

    • Cultivate innovation and drive change within the technological landscape.

  • Business Alignment:

    • Understand business requirements and ensure technology solutions support product viability.

    • Communicate technology vision to team members and uphold governance.


What you bring to the table:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • Over 10 years of experience in software design and development.

  • At least 2 years in a managerial role overseeing senior technical staff and Application Architects.

  • Extensive experience in delivering software products utilizing Agile/Scrum.

  • In-depth knowledge of Web, Java, Cloud, and related application technologies.

  • Solid understanding of various software architectures (Web, service-oriented, distributed, event-driven).

  • Proficiency in frontend and backend frameworks, specifically Java frameworks.

  • Strong knowledge of application security best practices.

  • Passionate about software development, architecture, and technological innovation.

  • Challenge-driven, creative, and inquisitive.

  • A transformative leader who questions the status quo and stimulates change.

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey ideas across diverse stakeholders.

  • Visionary with a sound understanding of IT industry challenges.

  • Organized, proactive, and an excellent team player.

  • Commitment to servant leadership and a collaborative, open work environment.

  • Adaptability to working in an evolving technological landscape.

  • Bilingual (French and English), Need to interact on a regular basis with an English-speaking clientele and colleagues across the country.

  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
