As Manager, Legal Affairs, you will be responsible for managing the insurance regulatory and marketing team covering the West, Ontario, and Atlantic regions.

You will be a key leader in shaping and nurturing our organization's approach to insurance regulation and regulatory relationships, including advancing ethical standards and the fair treatment of customers. This role is critical to building and maintaining trust with our customers, regulators, and stakeholders. This role reports to the Vice President, Legal Affairs.

Here are a few ways you'll make a difference:

  • You will act as manager of a team of legal professionals, primarily in insurance regulatory law providing guidance on the development and distribution of insurance products, market conduct requirements, federal and provincial licensing, and marketing law.

  • You will be required to provide developmental support to a team that includes a blend of legal counsel and law clerks by offering regular and ongoing feedback, mentoring, and coaching.

  • You will ensure the integrity of the legal and regulatory aspects of the distribution of the financial products and services offered by IFC companies and ensure that the values of the organization are upheld to the highest standards.

  • You will also participate in national strategic projects and industry advocacy initiatives, in collaboration with the Vice President.

What you bring to the table:

  • Member of the Law Society of Ontario in good standing.

  • Prior experience managing legal teams.

  • Superior technical legal skills.

  • Sound judgement and the ability to assess the practical implications of legal risks and think strategically.

  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.

  • Confidence in managing strategic files independently with minimal support.

  • Comfort with technology tools, including good working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to proactively propose innovative business solutions.

  • Ability to build relationships with business units and stakeholders and influence decision making at the operational and corporate level.

  • Team player with ability to collaborate exceptionally well with others.
