Salary range (but not limited to):

80,700 - 98,700

Annual bonus target, based on the base salary, with a potential payout of up to double the target (subject to personal and company performance):

Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.


About the role

We are seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Data Catalog Administrator and Support Specialist (Alation) to join our data-driven organization. This role is critical in ensuring the smooth operation, optimal configuration, and user adoption of the Data Catalog data catalog platform. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of data governance principles, experience with data catalog solutions, and excellent troubleshooting skills. 

Success in this role will be measured by enhanced user engagement with the Data Catalog platform, timely support resolution, and successful implementation of data governance practices 

 

The Data Catalog Administrator will report directly to the Manager, Data Management. 

What you'll do here: 

Data Catalog Platform Administration 

  • Manage user accounts, roles, and permissions within Data Catalog. 

  • Configure and maintain data sources, connections, and integrations. 

  • Create and customize workflows, policies, and automation rules. 

  • Monitor platform health, performance, and usage. 

  • Experience on Azure Virtual machines management, networking, and firewall. 

  • Hands on Experience on self-hosted and/or Cloud Data Catalog installations. 

  • Data Catalog HA setup and maintenance. 

User Support and Training 

  • Provide first and second-level support to Data Catalog users, addressing technical issues and guiding feature usage. 

  • Develop and deliver training materials, onboarding sessions, and documentation. 

  • Proactively promote Data Catalog adoption and best practices across the organization. 

Data Governance Collaboration 

  • Work closely with data stewards, data owners, and business analysts to align Data Catalog configurations with data governance policies and processes. 

  • Define and implement data quality and metadata management standards. 

  • Contribute to the development and enforcement of data access and security policies. 

System Enhancements 

  • Evaluate new features and enhancements in the Data Catalog and recommend improvements. 

  • Automate catalog-related tasks where possible using APIs and Scripting. 

  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in data governance and cataloging. 

 

What you bring to the table: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or related field, or equivalent experience. 

  • 2+ years of experience in a data-related role (e.g., data analyst, data engineer, database administrator).Expert knowledge of data cataloging, data lineage, and data quality tools (Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Atlan, etc.). 

  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada. 

  • For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism is required considering the necessity to interact on a regular basis with English-speaking colleagues across the country.

Preferred: 

  • Prior experience with Alation or other data catalog software. 

  • Prior experience with Data Catalog self-hosted & Cloud infra support. 

  • Experience working with ETL tools, APIs and Scription languages (Python, SQL)  

  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA, etc.). 

  • Certifications in data management or data governance. 

Skills 

  • Technical Skills: Data modeling, database administration, SQL, basic scripting, understanding of APIs and integrations. 

  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. 

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users. 

  • Collaboration Skills: Must be able to work cross-functionally with diverse stakeholders.
