As a Claims Manager, Specialty at Intact Public Entities (IPE) you will lead a team of Specialty Claims staff. This team is responsible for the management of Specialty Lines claims such as complex liability, property, E&O, and other municipal and public entity claims. Your claims experience and strive for excellence will help you successfully manage the day-to-day operations of your teams. We are a hybrid environment and this role is located in Cambridge, Ontario.
What you’ll do here:
- Manage the day-to-day operation of your team to achieve essential business goals and meet customer service expectations.
- Act as claims authority within areas of expertise and provide direction on such issues as file handling, policy interpretation, legal and technical issues or concerning large losses. Settle large or complex claims within own authority or escalate as necessary.
- Continually assess and improve workflows to ensure efficiency. This includes responding to and partnering with internal and external contacts regarding issues affecting them and ensuring smooth relationships between the group and other stakeholders.
- Work closely with your Director of Claims to develop strategies, long term and short-term plans to facilitate ongoing work, process improvement, customer relations and other functions.
- Monitor financial performance and productivity and report observations, progress, and recommendations to key stakeholders.
- Provide your expertise on claims matters including policy interpretation, liability and quantum determination, and settlement negotiation.
- Maintain work-product (inter alia claims adjudication, file management and communications with internal and external stakeholders) quality control of high standards.
- Provide effective leadership, responsible for hiring and terminations, coaching and mentoring, performance management, continuous learning and career development for your team of claims file handlers.
- Under the Hybrid Return-To-Office model, you will maintain a virtual and physical touchpoint with your leaders and team.
What you bring to the table:
- Experience with or exposure to Specialty Insurance Claims (Complex Casualty, E&O, Property, Municipal and Public Entity)
- Excellent claims technical skills with a deep understanding of insurance coverage issues.
- Proven leadership skills with experience coaching and mentoring.
- Excellent customer, communication, and interpersonal skills – you can relate to anyone!

- Positive attitude while adapting to changing priorities and taking ownership of work.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
- University Degree, CIP designation, legal background or any combination of training and experience deemed relevant for the role.
